In
the late 1970's, Marikina and its surrounding areas were
burgeoning communities in need
of schools that could serve their growing school-age population.
Mrs. Consolacion F. Mallonga, a respected educator in the
community, decided to respond to this need. She established
a school that was envisioned as an alternative
for families who desire an education at par with those offered
in exclusive schools, but prefer a co-educational environment.
This was named Infant Jesus Academy to honor the Holy Infant
in the Manger. Because of her religious training as a former
nun of the Servants of the Holy Spirit congregation, she made
sure that religious instructions on the Catholic faith is
made an integral part of the school curriculum.
Formal
operations began in June 1979 with the opening of classes
for 127 pre-school pupils. IJA was incorporated formally in
February 1980.
Through
the years, Infant Jesus Academy has earned a reputation in
the community for the quality of instruction in the classrooms,
the excellence and discipline of its students, as well as
its affordability to families of modest means.
Its
Marikina campus is located in the residential community of
Rancho Estate, bounded by SSS village. The 3-storey building
houses classrooms, libraries, laboratories, multi-purpose
rooms, a small chapel, offices and other facilities.
In
1996, a new campus with an area of close to one-hectare was
built to serve the needs of students residing in Cogeo and
the neighboring areas in Antipolo City. Infant Jesus Academy-Antipolo
is envisioned to be one of the leading educational institutions
in that community.
The
year 2001 witnessed the opening of the IJA Pre-school campus
along Gen. Ordonez St., in Marikina Heights. This provides
a very stimulating learning environment for children.
The school continues to grow with the establishment of IJA-Kalibo.
With this new school, IJA shares its commitment to excellent
and relevant basic education with the students of Aklan.
